Brett Stewart, UW-Madison Ph.D Candidate, School of Biological and Chemical Engineering
Brett Stewart is a PhD Candidate in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Dept. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005. He was born in Texas, but lived most of his life in cities throughout the Midwest. Brett was brought up in a Presbyterian household, but lived a secular life. As an undergraduate and prodded by the "New Atheist" movement of Richard Dawkins, he embraced science and atheism. He rejected all forms of spirituality and sought to lead others away from their faith.
In 2006, Brett was reintroduced to Christianity though his future wife. After skeptically approaching the relationship of science and religion, problems of evil, miracles and other difficult questions for a scientist, he converted to Catholicism in 2009 at the Cathedral Parish Easter Vigil.
Brett's interests include classical music history, theology, and playing tuba in a local brass band and quintet.
