The whole process of entering the Catholic Church as an adult convert – including study, spiritual preparation and the actual reception of the Sacraments by which one enters the Church – is called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA for short).

The RCIA process always includes interaction with others – official representatives of the Church (at the liturgical ceremonies), those who are responsible for teaching, a sponsor, and others who are in the process of becoming Catholic.
