On the Feast of Corpus Christi in 2007, Bishop Morlino announced his intention to build a new St. Raphael on the site of the cathedral that was destroyed by arson in 2005.

The new cathedral will face Fairchild Street, utilizing what had been the parking lot of the former cathedral and allowing it to be longer and wider than the former cathedral.

The Diocese of Madison is currently engaged in a feasibility study to ascertain how much money can be raised to fund the construction of the new cathedral. Based on that figure, plans for a new cathedral will be formulated and the actual fundraising will begin.

There is not yet any timetable for construction.
