Theology on Tap - “The Lenten Mystery: Helping us Grow Into the Person of Jesus"
Thursday, March 27th
The sacred liturgy during the season of Lent presents us with an extraordinary picture of Jesus. This picture incorporates all the vocations of the ancient patriarchs and prophets. They tried to respond to God’s call as best they could. Jesus too received a special call from God. His response was one of total gift-love. We can all learn from how the ancients answered God’s working in their lives. But we can learn even more by reflecting upon Jesus’ response to God’s call.
Speaker: Abbot Marcel Rooney, O.S.B
founding president of the Orate Pastoral Institute of Sacred Liturgy, Music and Art, former Abbot Primate of the Benedictine Order
Abbot Marcel Rooney has been a monk of Conception Abbey, in Conception, MO, for over 50 years. He has taught courses on the Sacraments, esp. the Eucharist, for many of those years. He received his doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy in Rome, and later became a professor there.
He was elected abbot of Conception Abbey in 1993, and then elected Abbot Primate of the entire Benedictine Order in 1996. This necessitated his moving back to Rome, which became his home base for some years, although the job meant that he also had to travel to all six continents.
Health problems have forced him to cut back on these world-wide activities. He is in Madison at the request of Bishop Robert Morlino, and has been working to found an Institute of Sacred Liturgy, Music and Art.
What is Theology on Tap?
Theology on Tap is a monthly event, generally the fourth Thursday of the month, where 20s&30s are invited to join us for free beer and engaging talks by some of the leading thinkers, speakers, educators, innovators, and activists in the nation as they share their insights on various contemporary issues facing young adults today.
